Burundi

Freddy Lumande

Burundi National Director

Burundi is a small, landlocked country in East Africa, bordered by Rwanda, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a population of more than 13 million people. Despite its beautiful landscape, rich culture, and resilient people, Burundi remains one of the poorest countries in the world. Widespread poverty, particularly in rural communities, limits access to quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunity. Many families depend on subsistence farming to survive, making it difficult to consistently provide food, education, and other basic necessities for their children. These challenges create significant barriers for children as they grow and pursue opportunities for their future.
