Our Mission
Bethlehem Christian Academy shares the hope of Jesus Christ with orphans and impoverished children through Gospel-centered Christian education, with the goal of making disciples and planting churches.
Our Story
From Zambia to a Calling
Victor Chibangula grew up in poverty in Northern Zambia, where he learned early that education could open doors to a different future. His hard work eventually led to a scholarship at Wichita State University and a successful career as a bank executive in Zambia.
But God had different plans. After encountering the gospel through a sermon by Scottish evangelist William C. Burns, Victor gave his life to Christ and felt called to ministry. That calling eventually brought him to Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City.
A Friendship and a Vision
While at Midwestern, Victor met Martin Winslow in a Hebrew class. The two quickly became friends, and Victor shared his heart for the people of Zambia—communities facing both deep physical poverty and a great need for the hope of the gospel.
After Victor returned to Zambia to plant churches, God eventually brought the two friends back together. Martin traveled to Zambia and saw firsthand the needs Victor had described. Together, they began dreaming of Christian schools that could provide children with an education, nutritious meals, and, most importantly, the hope of Jesus.
They named the ministry Bethlehem Christian Academy. Bethlehem means “House of Bread”—a fitting name for a ministry committed to providing both physical and spiritual nourishment.
Bethlehem Christian Academy Begins
In 2011, BCA opened its doors to its first 31 students. Through child sponsorships and partnerships with churches and individuals, the ministry continued to grow—adding students, grades, campuses, and opportunities to share the gospel.
What began as a friendship and a shared burden for the people of Zambia has grown into a ministry reaching children, families, churches, and communities with the hope of Jesus.
The Work Continues
Today, BCA’s mission remains rooted in that original vision: meeting physical needs while making disciples and strengthening the local church. Through Christian education, child sponsorship, church planting, pastoral training, and expansion into new communities and nations, the work continues.
Through it all, we give thanks to God for what He has done and look forward with faith to what He will do next.
